[ INFO ]
Karla Bidi (meaning “Fire Trail”) was a landmark public art installation presented during Perth Festival 2025. Inspired by the Noongar tradition of lighting fires to greet and guide visitors, the project transformed the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) into an illuminated pathway stretching from the hills to the sea. Eleven large beacons of light, each symbolizing a campfire, were installed at various sites along the river, including Sir James Mitchell Park, Point Walter Reserve, and Lilac Hill Park. Accompanied by evocative soundscapes, Karla Bidi created a unique blend of light sculpture and audio experience, inviting audiences to reflect on themes of welcome, warmth, and community connection.
